What to see in Lessinia
Lessinia is the mountain zone just north of Verona, between the city and the Little Dolomites of Vicentino. Lessinia has ancient origins, a large variety of fossils, and was inhabited by the Cimbri. The area of its territory that extends over the higher plateau of the Monti Lessini is a part of the Parco Naturale Regionale della Lessinia (Regional Natural Park of Lessinia). Lessinia is rich in flora and fauna, especially in birds, from the golden eagle to the grey heron. In summer, a dense network of trails and Alpine huts offers the chance for everyone, young and old, to venture into the greenery. The dirt tracks are also great for those who love mountain biking or horseback riding. In colder seasons, Malga San Giorgio becomes a small skiing station; this is where ski lifts depart for the alpine and Nordic ski trails of the Centro Fondo Alta Lessinia.
Lessinia is a natural paradise, rich in surprising places. If you love green, we recommend a trip into the Giazza forest, and a visit to the centenarian beeches of the Bosco Chiesanuova and Erbezzo. Still within the Parco Regionale, you can also visit the Valle delle Sfingi, dotted with monolithic blocks of a similar shape to Egyptian sphinxes (hence the name sfingi).
